Add Music To Your Golf Game With NYNE Bluetooth Speaker


I was recently introduced to the idea of listening to music while on the golf course.  Admittedly, at first I had mixed emotions about the idea... On the one hand, how awesome would it be to listen to my favorite tracks while playing golf... while on the other hand, how would the golf course react to music blaring out on the fairways?

An Introduction to TLink Golf

The FORE App

Over the past year we've really seen a surge in the golf industry with technology and more specifically mobile applications.  We've seen it all from games, a variety of gps solutions, mobile scorecards etc etc.  Just when I thought this market segment was pretty much saturated, I was introduced to yet another mobile app call FORE.

I was recently introduced to the trade in program offered through 2nd Swing, and I gotta say, what a genius concept.  Through their trade in program, 2nd Swing provides golfers with the ability to trade in their used golf clubs for new ones.  So how does it work?  

Through the 2nd Swing website (www.2ndswing.com) golfers can enter the model and details of their clubs and the 2nd Swing site will provide an appraisal value.  It's that easy; then pack them up, ship them out, and shop for a new set!  And with over 19,000 clubs currently available for purchase, you're bound to find what you're looking for.

Although I have seen other trade in programs, on average the 2nd Swing's golf club trade in service provides sellers approximately 15% higher trade in values compared to competitors. How does the trade in process work?

Sellers will do this, typically, to add credibility to their trade in value for golf clubs, or to keep their values competitive.

The Gravity Brush

Here's a sneak peak at the newest golf product hitting the market, the Gravity Brush.  Manufactured by our friends at Goose Golf Solutions, the new Gravity Brush is the latest in golf club cleaning technology.  With features such as a refillable water chamber, soft and firm bristles and the smart water release system, this a must have for any golfer.

At first I wasn't 100% sold on the concept and/or need for this type of product, but after clipping it onto my bag and playing a couple rounds, I've lost count of how many times I've been happy I had it.  I largely underestimated how quickly the grooves on clubs get filled with grass and dirt.  Being able to keep clubs and grooves clean and in optimal playing condition is an invaluable solution.

Chase54 is a golf apparel brand that I introduced to the Eat Sleep Golf community earlier this year in my post "Chase54 - We Believe".  As I continue to explore this brand, try out their product, and get community feedback, my excitement and enthusiasm continues to grow. 

At Eat Sleep Golf we put a lot a lot of time and effort into analyzing new products, brands, and all the ins and outs and fine print that goes along with them.  Finding an innovative new company like Chase54, is arguably the most exciting part of my job.  Watching their growth so far this season throughout the golf industry has been a remarkable process.

The Most Functional Towel in Golf - Goose Golf


Outside the essentials (clubs, bag, balls & tees) I would have to say the most important golf accessory is a golf towel.  A golfers towel plays a vital role in ensuring your clubs and your balls are clean from dirt, allowing them to perform at their best.  A couple month ago, in our article 'Goose Golf - Play Clean Golf' we briefly introduced you to the Goose Golf brand.  Now, having had the opportunity to see it, use it and put it through some rigorous testing, I wanted to provide some further insight into what this product has to offer.

Three Layer Wet/Dry Design



This towel is boasted as a wet/dry towel... It conveniently folds open at the bottom allowing golfers to wet the inside, while the outside layer stays dry.  I was a little skeptical at first as to how well it would work, and so this was the first thing I wanted to test out.  After trying it out, to my surprise, this function of the towel worked fantastically, where the wet inner layer allowed me to clean my clubs, and the outer layer did in fact stay dry allowing me to dry my hands and/or wipe down my clubs/grips.  This feature alone, would be enough to make me suggest this towel to others, but Goose Golfs ingenuity doesn't stop there...

Attention to Detail

If the quality construction of the towel isn't enough, there's a few other features that help set the Goose Towel apart from their competitors.  Two of these features that I personally like are:

1) The carabiner clip which allows you to fasten the towel to your bag, but still easily remove it when required

2) the velcro Goose Golf logo on the top of the towel.  This feature can easily be overlooked, but comes in really handy for attaching your golf glove when you are ready to hit the putting surface.

The Putting Mate

This additional accessory that comes included with every Goose Golf towel has become my new favorite!  I can't tell you how many times I've walked up to the putting green to find that my ball had a huge mud goiter attached to it.  Too inconvenienced to walk back to my golf bag to fetch my golf towel, countless times I've resorted to smearing the mud off with my thumb.  Apart from giving me an excuse for the missed putt that often follows, this is a sad but avoidable reality.  The Putting Mate (with the same wet/dry design as the towel) conveniently clips onto your belt loop to ensure you will always be putting with a clean ball. GAME GOLF - Wearable Golf Technology

This has got to be one of the most advanced and innovative technology driven solutions to hit the golf industry, EVER!  For over a year, I've combed the industry in search of a golf technology to get excited about.  I've evaluated more apps than I can remember, from the free stats tracker iphone apps to the more advanced (and pricey) Trackman solution and everything in between.

Eco Golf - Golf is Simple

One of the best parts of my job involves working with cutting edge golf brands in order to help announce their vision to the golf community.  Last week I introduced an innovative golf apparel company called Chase54; this week, I have the pleasure of introducing another innovative golf company called Eco Golf.

Chase54 - We Believe


I have to admit, I'm a bit of a brand junkie; but in a different way compared to many golfers.  I don't dress head to toe in clothing just because the top golfers on the PGA Tour are wearing it, and I don't fill my bag with golf clubs based on the catchy tv commercials.  Instead, I spend a lot of time, sifting through the golf industry searching for those diamond in the rough companies, who are doing what they love, fighting for what they believe and are producing great quality products that proudly represent their brand.  This is exactly what I found with the Chase54 brand and their innovative golf apparel.

PGA Merchandise Show - Inventor's Spotlight


The PGA Merchandise Show in general is an amazing venue for finding the newest, most cutting edge products, including everything from innovative golf apparel to the newest technology for golf clubs.  But they also take it a step farther with the Inventors Spotlight, sponsored by InventionHome, which takes a glimps at what the future of golf has in store; this includes everything from the good, the bad and the bizarre.   For the last 3 years, the United Inventors Association of America has teamed up with the PGA Merchandise Show in order to feature products that may have the potential to be the next latest and greatest in golf.

As part of the Inventors Spotlight, along with seminars and guest speakers, a panel of judges evaluated all the new products in attendance in order to find the winners of three main categories: Most Innovative Concept, Best Manufacturing Analysis and the Pinnacle Award.

A product that seemed to be garnering more attention than others (but didn't win an award) was the Golf Bike, a bicycle designed to carry clubs and be used as an alternative to walking the course or using a cart. 

 “We’re a bike company, but we also do golf swing aids and we’re also golfers,” Roger Hawkes of Higher Ground Bicycle Company, said. ” We combined what we do for a living in the cycling world along with our passion for golf. “It’s low impact to the course. Obviously, it’s going to add fitness and speed of play. When we use it it’s about an hour for nine holes.”


But in the end after interviews, evaluations, analysis etc, the judges announced the winners of the three categories as follows:

Most Innovative Concept
This award is designed to accommodate inventors who may not have a retail ready product. From a sketch to a fully developed product, this category looks at the overall innovation of the concept and how it fits into the category. Examples of this may be – Does the product truly represent an innovative approach to the benefit it provides the consumer? Is the product take a novel way to approach its function and design? Does the product solve a true consumer problem in a new and creative way.

Winner: The Golf Square
The Golf Square is a golf training aid to help golfers align themselves in hopes of finding a more accurate golf shot.  Although I've seen several similar concepts on the market, the judges thought this was innovative enough for the award.  More innovative than the golf bike, I'm not sure.

Best Manufacturing Analysis
Manufacturing is a vital part of the commercialization process. however overlooked by most inventors. This award serves to recognize the inventor/product that has completed a comprehensive study of the manufacturing techniques and material required to manufacture their product or design. Considerations for judging this category may be – Has the inventor investigated the different manufacturing processes needed to create the product? Did the inventor develop a matrix of comparable materials needed including an understanding of their limitations? Did the inventor demonstrate an understanding of the cost, design, and function tradeoffs associated with manufacturing their product or concept?

Winner: PushNPutt (www.pushnputt.com)
The PushNPutt is flagstick the eliminates the need to bend over to retrieve your ball from the hole.  With a simple push of the flagpole, balls are automatically returned to the playing surface.

The Pinnacle Award
The Pinnacle Award: The successful development of a product takes talent, knowledge, and tenacity. As such, the Pinnacle Award is designed to recognize the broadest range of efforts by the inventor. From design, market research, sales, fulfillment, manufacturing and quality. This category is judged on everything. Scores in the judging of this award will be given based on the attention paid by the inventor to all phases of ideation, invention, and commercialization.

Winner: PGF Personal Golf Fan (www.pgffan.com)
Just is sounds, the Personal Golf Fan is a portable fan that you can take with you on the golf course.  This innovative, battery operated product is conveniently designed to fit into the standard cup holder in any golf cart.

2013 PGA Show - Best New Products

The PGA Merchandise Show took place this past week, as thousands of golf brands, product manufacturers, service providers and golf enthusiasts flocked to Orlando to be a part of this trend setting event. To put the size of the show into perspective, just to walk up and down each aisle, you'd have to cover about 10 miles! 

We've done some of the leg work for you and have narrowed things down to a few of our favorite new products and brands.  Of course every golf company in attendance was trying to show off their latest and greatest, but we're looking to highlight something more exciting than an old product painted in new colors. So, here's what we found...


Boccieri Secret Grip
This is something else that I hadn't previously heard of.  While the conventional golf grip weighs 52 grams, this one is built with a tungsten weight and clocks in at 92 grams. The heaviness is meant to raise the balance point of the club, which is designed to promote better body mechanics.

SuperFlex Bands Golf Kit
Resistance training is something that has been around in the fitness industry for a long time.  This company has now designed a product and program specifically with golfers in mind.

TrackMan 
Although this is something that I have seen previously, TrackMan continues to be the leader in cutting edge technology within the golf industry.  Plotting out you golf shots, the newest edition can now be used wirelessly with a smartphone and an application. Instead of a hard line and laptop, the litany of data can be accessed remotely and by multiple users at the same time.

Chase 54
The golf apparel segment is arguably the most competitive, with countless brands to choose from.  Chase 54 could be considered the new kid on the block,  but they're already turning some heads.

SNAG Golf Sticky Suit

In my years of experience in the golf industry, I've seen hundreds, probably thousands of golf products, but I've never seen anything quite like the SNAG Golf Sticky Suit.  

If you've ever been to a driving range, I'm sure you've been tempted by wanting to try to hit the golf ball collector guy.  Kids have a similar desire, and if you have them, they probably want nothing more than to hit you with golf balls.  Enter, the sticky suit.

Fila Golf Gear

Fila is a brand that undoubtedly rings familiar with all sport enthusiasts, which is the result of them growing into one of the world's largest sportswear manufacturers.  Although I've been well aware of their presence in the sports world for some time, it wasn't until recently that I was introduced to their line of golf apparel.

Along with their array of stylish golf polo's, Fila has a complete golf collection which includes sweaters, pullovers, pants and more.  I had the privileged of trying out some of these products first hand and was thoroughly impressed with the look, feel and quality.  Have a look at a few of my favorites below or check out the entire Fila Golf Collection on their website.


Jasper Textured Fleece Performance Jacket
These Fila golf jackets top my list of favorites, providing warmth, comfort and style.  These natural moisture wicking textured fleece jackets serve as the perfect warm up jacket for heading to the links on those brisk cool days.  They boast front welt pockets, self adjustable sleeve closure with velcro, F-box patch logo sewn on bottom right back and overall great quality that goes without saying for all Fila products.  This jacket has definitely made the cut as my go-to warm up garment.




Chamonix Knit Sweater
The Fila Chamonix knit sweater is next on my list of favorites, which again provides style, warmth and comfort.  This sweater is available in three different color combinations, and is the perfect addition to any golfers wardrobe.  The full zip makes it an excellent option and easily removable once you knock down a couple birdies and start to heat things up on the course.  These heavy knit sweaters are an excellent Christmas gift option, and are perfect for the winter months.



Napoli Plaid Pants
I've been looking to add some flare to my golf pant collection for some time now, but had yet to find the right combination of style, comfort, quality and color.  I was pumped to find the Fila Napoli plaid pants which met and exceeded my expectations.  These light weight, cotton, wrinkle resistant pants are on trend with what we're seeing throughout the industry.   The relax fit makes them very comfortable for wearing during golf play and/or for lounging around watching golf on tv.
