BOSTON, MA – Baseball’s heavy hitter David Ortiz will reprise his role as “host with the most” in the Dominican Republic for the 6th annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic, benefiting the David Ortiz Children’s Fund in partnership with World Pediatric Project and Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. Once again, some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment will join Ortiz’s efforts in raising funds for this international cause which provides critical pediatric healthcare in the Dominican Republic and throughout New England.

Ortiz is inviting sports fans and golf enthusiasts alike to join his cause by participating in the four day celebrity VIP golfing getaway which will take place at AlSol Luxury Village in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, December 12th – 15, 2013. Three special VIP packages are available for purchase, offering guests once in a lifetime experiences at the internationally recognized affair including: a round of golf with a celebrity captain at the world-renowned Punta Espada Golf Course - rated the #1 golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico by GOLFWEEK; luxury accommodations, and access to all-inclusive dining and event entertainment on property.

Over the years, the event has attracted the attendance and support of baseball stars including: Pedro Martinez, Terry Francona, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez, as well as NBA legends Bill Russell, Alonzo Mourning, and NHL Hall-of-Famer Bobby Orr.

“Every year I am so grateful for the generosity from both participants and the corporate community,” says Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz, now playing in his 17th major league season. “I am looking forward to having a good time with friends as we raise money to help children who are in need of critical medical care.”

To date, the charity golf outing netted approximately $1.5 million and has given Ortiz the opportunity to showcase the beauty of his home country while improving the lives of children in need.

Dr. Peter L. Slavin, President of Massachusetts General Hospital says, “David's generosity extends not only to raising money to help improve the lives of our pediatric patients, but to taking the time to cheer them up with visits at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. You can tell that David loves his visits with these kids as much as they appreciate seeing him. We at Massachusetts General Hospital are proud of our friendship with David and grateful for his continued support of MassGeneral Hospital for Children.”

The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic directly benefits the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which was founded in 2007 in partnership with the International Hospital for Children, now known as the World Pediatric Project, to provide critical pediatric healthcare in the Dominican Republic. In 2009, the Fund partnered with Massachusetts General Hospital for Children to continue and extend its life-saving mission to New England.

“World Pediatric Project looks forward to celebrating its sixth year collaborating with David in uniting friends to play golf and help David realize his dream - that Dominican children will receive the quality pediatric critical care they deserve and need to live a full and healthy life.” Susan Rickman, CEO, World Pediatric Project.
