Episode Two of Long Drive Month Airs Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 9 p.m. ET
Last week’s premiere episode introduced Golf Channel viewers to some of the characters who compete in long drive competitions and showed why hitting the long ball is their addiction. From the Desert Launch Championship in March through the regional qualifying events that took place around the world, viewers met long-hitting teenagers William Hinson from Blythewood, S.C., and Trent Scruggs from Hickory, N.C.; returning champions like Carl Wolter from Lehighton, Pa., and David Mobley from Ft. Myers, Fla., (also a former BIG BREAK contestant); and newcomers like Troy Teal from Key West, Fla., who began his qualifying quest with a standard driver but advanced only with the help of borrowed equipment from a more experienced competitor.
The show also visited the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif., where experts like Dr. Greg Rose conduct research that reveals how the human body moves in the golf swing. The science behind the long drive shows how long drivers have perfected generating and transferring power in the golf swing. It also followed two long drivers as they navigated their way inside Callaway Golf Company headquarters – sponsor of the 11-member Callaway Long Drive Team – and the Ely Callaway Performance Center to show how they tested their drivers to maximize future distance.
Episode two of the RE/MAX WORLD LONG DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP airs this Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 9 p.m. ET on Golf Channel. The two-hour, live finale on Oct. 30 at 9 p.m. ET will take place under the lights of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, when eight finalists will compete for a winner-take-all $250,000 prize.
